Though perhaps not outstanding, the family has been
down the centuries of good yeoman stock (dé bouonne
cliâsse, in Jèrriais), very many of them ordinary but
nevertheless often eminent members who will have contributed, as
hundreds of thousands of other Jersiais, to the life and welfare of
our beloved, and their beloved Île de Jersey in all ways
and means, in all trades and profession but especially so as humble
but subtantial members of the farming community - in agriculture, the
noblest of all occupations.
Philippe George Le Sauteur was a Deputy of the
States of Jersey (1870's-1880's). He purchased "La Ferme de la
Fontaine" from a Samuel de Gruchy in 1872. Philippe had the farm
"L'Hermitage" before going to Grouville Arsenal to train
Militia recruits in his 30's. He bought "L'Hermitage" farm
from his uncle Thomas John (1811-1852) in the 1850's.
